About the CATS Fellowships

The Centre for Applied Turkey Studies (CATS) at SWP in Berlin offers fellowships to:

  • Established researchers and think tank professionals
  • Practitioners with solid policy experience on Turkey
  • Advanced doctoral candidates with a strong research track record in Turkey-related issues

Fellowship Duration & Location

  • Duration: 6–12 months (starting September 2025 at the earliest)
  • Location: Berlin, Germany (residency required throughout, except during approved research trips)

Working Languages

English and/or German, depending on your project’s scope and publication plans.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must:

  1. Be researchers, think tank professionals, or advanced doctoral candidates with expertise in Turkey‑related topics.
  2. Demonstrate extensive research experience and a record of significant publications.
  3. Propose a project linking academic rigour with actionable policy recommendations.
  4. Commit to residing in Berlin for the fellowship period (excluding planned research trips).

Preference is given to candidates who have not previously received CATS funding.
