To apply for the MDS program, start by submitting a standard application. In addition to this, you’ll need to provide an essay that highlights a specific example of how data could be used to improve policy-making.
Your essay should be approximately two pages long and provide a detailed outline of how data could be used (or better used) in this scenario. Be sure to specify what data you would use, how you would access or gather this data, and what challenges you might encounter in the process.
Your essay should also outline how you would propose to use the data to improve policy-making in this specific case. The more specific and detailed your essay, the better your chances of being shortlisted for an interview.
Once you have submitted your standard application, send your essay to grad-admissions[at]hertie-school[dot]org before May 1st. After reviewing all applications, shortlisted candidates will be contacted for an interview. This is a great opportunity to demonstrate your passion for data and your ability to apply it to real-world situations.
