Scholarship Overview

This prestigious PhD scholarship is provided by the Riddet Institute and offers:

Tax-free stipend: NZ$35,000 per year.

The successful candidate will work at the Food Experience and Sensory Testing (Feast) Lab under the supervision of Professors Joanne Hort (Massey University) and Sara Jaeger (Aarhus University, Denmark, in collaboration with Plant and Food Research, NZ).

Research Focus

The research is part of a program investigating Consumer Engagement with Future Foods. Key objectives include:

  • Characterizing sensory and emotional responses to future foods.
  • Evaluating the effectiveness of consumer data collection methods.
  • Exploring the use of eye-tracking technology to examine consumer interaction with CATA questionnaires.
  • Assessing the impact of situational appropriateness, culture, and product familiarity on consumer behavior.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must meet the following criteria:

Academic Qualification:

  • Minimum of an Honours degree with First or Second Class Honours (Division 1) in Food Science, Psychology, or a related discipline.
  • A Master’s degree is advantageous.

Skill Requirements:

  • Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
  • Competence in statistics and data analysis.
  • Experience with human subject research is preferred.
