Scholarship Funding and Benefits

The Prime Minister’s Scholarships provide a comprehensive funding package designed to support every aspect of your international programme:

For Individual Programmes:

  • Tuition Fees: Coverage for courses in Asia or Latin America (if you continue paying New Zealand fees on exchange, those are not covered).
  • Brokerage Fees: Up to $530 per week for internship programmes from approved providers.
  • Return Flights:
    • NZ-Asia: Up to $3,500
    • NZ-Latin America: Up to $4,500
  • Living & Accommodation Contributions:
    • Asia: $470 per week
    • Latin America: $380 per week
  • Travel & Medical Insurance: Provided for the duration of the programme.
  • Visa Fee Contribution: Up to a maximum of $200.

Additional Funding for Group Programmes:

  • Up to $20,000 in additional funding at the discretion of the selection panel.

  • One-Semester Exchange/Study Abroad (18 weeks): $6,840
  • Two-Semester Exchange/Study Abroad (36 weeks): $13,680
  • Full Year Academic Programme (36 weeks): $13,680

Asia Programmes:

  • One-Semester Exchange/Study Abroad (18 weeks): $8,460
  • Two-Semester Exchange/Study Abroad (36 weeks): $16,920
  • Full Year Academic Programme (36 weeks): $16,920
  • Two-Year Academic Programme (72 weeks): $33,840

Who Can Apply?

To be eligible for the Prime Minister’s Scholarships for Asia and Latin America, applicants must meet the following criteria:

Age Requirement: Must be at least 18 years old on the date of applying.

Citizenship & Residency: Must be a New Zealand citizen or permanent resident with a minimum of 12 months residency in New Zealand during the previous 24 months.

Family Exclusion: Applicants should not be immediate relatives of Education New Zealand staff or selection panel members.

Medical Fitness: Must be medically fit to travel, including passing routine border checks such as COVID-19 tests.

Programme Commitment: Must be able to attend the full duration of the overseas programme and secure an entry visa to the host country.

Prior Scholarship Limitation: Should not have previously received a Prime Minister’s Scholarship of the same type (group or individual).

Additionally, the host country or region must be deemed safe for travel according to New Zealand’s SafeTravel advisory scale.
