Application is invited to apply for the University of Otago International Excellence Scholarship In New Zealand 2023. Otago International Excellence Scholarships welcome, support, and recognize the very best international students commencing selected postgraduate programs.
These merit-based scholarships recognize academic excellence, diversity, and leadership potential in supporting high-achieving students in their studies. The scholarships are also designed to support those students best placed to make a positive impact on society in their future careers.
The University of Otago is a public university based in Dunedin, Otago, New Zealand. The university accepted its first students in July 1871, making it the oldest university in New Zealand and the third-oldest in Oceania.

Eligible students
To be considered for a scholarship, students must:
Be international students who are not citizens, permanent residents, or resident visa holders of New Zealand or Australia*; and Have met the entry requirements for an eligible program; and Have met the award level for the scholarship; and Be subject to paying international tuition fees; and Be intending to commence full-time study in that program in 2023.
Eligible Programs
Business, Humanities, and Science
Students must be applying to study a program in one of the following eligible program categories:
- Masters (coursework) degrees
Excluding the Master of Business Administration (MBA) - Masters (Research) degrees
- Postgraduate diplomas
Excluding the Postgraduate Diploma in Digital Health (PGDipHeal) - Honors degrees
Offshore students
For students outside of New Zealand, the program must also be available via:
- Distance learning
- Online learning (programs temporarily offered online due to COVID‑19)

Part-time students
Scholarships may be offered to part-time students as long as they meet all other eligibility criteria. The scholarship will be awarded on a pro-rata basis, based on the amount of study applied for. Part-time applicants currently in New Zealand are strongly encouraged to speak to Immigration New Zealand to ensure their chosen study option is possible under visa requirements.
Scholarship Benefits:
The University of Otago will pay NZ$10,000 for tuition fees for full-time study.
How To Apply
Students will be assessed for a scholarship on the application for their program and recipients will be advised of their scholarship in the Offer of Place. The selection of scholarship recipients is at the discretion of the University of Otago.
