Study Hall Hours: Freshmen are required to complete 80 study hours per semester—a structured approach to foster academic success.

Mentor/Mentee Program: Each incoming scholar is paired with a current Promising Scholar to provide guidance and support during the transition to college life.

Frederick Douglass Institute: Engage in intercultural research and advocacy initiatives focused on diversity and equity.

  • Mock Interviews & Résumé Preparation: Sharpen your professional skills.

Who Can Apply?

How to Become a Promising Scholar

Step 1: Apply to IUP

Submit your application for admission to Indiana University of Pennsylvania by the October 31, 2025 deadline. Early application is highly encouraged to maximize your chances of receiving the scholarship.

Step 2: Complete the Promising Scholars Application

After admission, complete the Promising Scholars Application online via the official IUP website. This additional application highlights your academic achievements, leadership skills, and community involvement.

Step 3: Prepare for the Interview

Qualified applicants will be invited to one of the two interview events:

  • Promising Scholars West: November 23, 2025, on the IUP Campus.
  • Promising Scholars East: November 26, 2025, in Philadelphia.

These interviews are a critical part of the selection process and provide an opportunity for you to learn more about the program, meet current scholars, and present your case as a future leader.
