I. Scholarship Coverage

The Shanghai Municipal Government Scholarship offers two categories:

Type A (Full Scholarship): Available exclusively for graduate programs. It covers tuition fees, accommodation fees, and comprehensive medical insurance during the standard study period. Additionally, recipients receive a monthly living allowance:

  • Master’s students: RMB 3,000 per month
  • Doctoral students: RMB 3,500 per month

Type B (Partial Scholarship): Available for both undergraduate and graduate programs. It covers tuition fees and comprehensive medical insurance during the standard study period.

II. Available Majors for Application

Not available for the Undergraduate program in Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages (Hongkou Campus).

Not available for all Professional Master’s Degree programs.

Other degree programs are open for application.

III. Eligibility Criteria

  1. Nationality and Health: Applicants must be non-Chinese citizens in good health.
  2. Educational Background and Age:
    • Undergraduate applicants: High school graduates under 25 years old with adequate Chinese proficiency meeting the program’s requirements.
    • Master’s applicants: Bachelor’s degree holders under 35 years old with adequate Chinese proficiency meeting the program’s requirements.
    • Doctoral applicants: Master’s degree holders under 40 years old with adequate Chinese proficiency meeting the program’s requirements.
  3. Academic Performance: Applicants should demonstrate diligence, strong academic achievements, and good attendance records.
  4. Scholarship Status: Applicants should not be recipients of other scholarships.

Note: Additional requirements as per SISU’s enrollment regulations may apply.

The application deadline is March 31, 2025.

V. Application Procedure

Step 1: Online Application

Apply through the SISU online application system: http://apply.shisu.edu.cn.

Complete the application form and upload the required documents, including the Application Form for Shanghai Municipal Government Scholarship.

Step 2: Pay the Application Fee

Undergraduate programs at the Hongkou campus: 450 RMB or 75 USD (overseas transfer).

Undergraduate programs at the Songjiang campus: 750 RMB or 125 USD (overseas transfer).

Master’s and Doctoral programs: 800 RMB or 130 USD (overseas transfer).

VI. Admission Procedure

Application Review: Track your application status by logging into your SISU online account. If modifications or additional materials are needed, SISU will contact you via email or phone. Keep your contact information current and check your email regularly.

Entrance Examination: SISU will conduct a written examination starting in April 2025. Successful candidates will proceed to an interview. Ensure your email address is correct and monitor it regularly for important notifications regarding the examination schedule. The applicant is responsible for missing notifications due to negligence. Note: Each applicant has only one opportunity to take the entrance examination, applicable only to the “First Major Applying” as indicated in the Shanghai Municipal Government Scholarship Application Form.

Scholarship Evaluation: SISU will assess scholarship applicants who pass the entrance examination.

Final Results: Scholarship admission results will be published in late May or early June on the SISU website: http://www.oisa.shisu.edu.cn/.
