The Nairobi Summer School in Ethiopia 2026 (Fully Funded)

About NSSCJ Cohort V

Theme: Aspiring a Liveable Future – Youth-Led Transformation in the Polycrisis Era
NSSCJ brings together a diverse cohort of climate justice advocates, community leaders, Indigenous representatives, smallholder farmers, faith-based groups, and more. Through lectures, case studies, group exercises, field visits, and peer-to-peer discussions, participants gain interdisciplinary insights and practical tools to address climate challenges in their communities.

Program Structure & Delivery

Online Pre-Training (May–July 2025):

  • All successful applicants complete an online survey and preparatory modules via Zoom.

n-Person Training (August 17–30, 2025):

  • 12 intensive days at Addis Ababa University featuring:
    • Expert lectures on climate justice, policy, and resilience
    • Interactive workshops and scenario planning
    • Field visits to local climate adaptation projects
    • Networking events with policymakers and NGOs

Post-Training Alumni Network:

  • Ongoing virtual forums and regional meetups to sustain collaboration and action.

Who Can Apply?

  • Age: 18–35 years
  • Education: Minimum O-level (or equivalent)
  • Language: Fluent in English, French, or Portuguese
  • Passport: Required for non-Ethiopian participants
  • Background: Open to activists, researchers, community leaders, students, and professionals from all sectors dedicated to climate justice.

Scholarship & Participation Costs

NSSCJ offers a limited number of scholarships awarded competitively. Participation fees (scholarships cover tuition and some costs):

International (In-Person): USD 3,500
(Includes return economy airfare, visa, accommodation, meals, tuition, and certificate)

Local Ethiopian (In-Person): USD 2,500
(Covers local transport, accommodation, conference package, meals, and certificate)

Virtual Participation: USD 300
(Access to all online content and certificate)

Complete Pre-Training Survey: All applicants must finish the online survey and modules.

Submit Required Documents: Proof of age, education certificate, language proficiency, and passport copy (if applicable).

Await Selection: Successful candidates will receive an email by June 7, 2025.
