Applications are now open for the University of Manitoba Graduate Fellowships (UMGF) 2026 in Canada. This prestigious fellowship program recognizes outstanding academic achievement and research potential among graduate students.

The UMGF provides generous financial support to both Master’s and PhD students across all fields of study, helping them focus on their academic and research goals at one of Canada’s top research universities.

UMGF Value and Duration

Master’s Fellowship:

Doctoral Fellowship:

  • Duration: 12, 24, 36, or 48 months (up to $100,000 total)

The value and duration of each fellowship are determined by the respective department or unit, based on program progression and academic standing.

Students who cannot accept their award within the same academic year must decline the offer.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Academic Standing: Minimum GPA of 3.0 (departments may require higher).
  • Citizenship: Open to all students, regardless of nationality.
  • Program Eligibility: Must be enrolled full-time in a Master’s or PhD program eligible for Tri-Agency funding.

Additional Requirements:

  • Maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0 with no grade below C+.
  • Show strong research potential and academic promise.
  • Have no active admission-related hold on student account.
  • Must not hold another award of equal or greater value than the UMGF.
  • Cannot change departments or programs during the funding period.
  • Must not have previously held UMGF funding for more than 4 years total.

Application Process

The application process is handled by individual departments or units.

Contact your department for their internal UMGF application procedure and deadline.

Departments review applicants and nominate selected students to the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies (FGPS).

FGPS reviews all nominations and issues official award letters to successful recipients via email.
