The application is now open for the Biocenter Summer School 2026 in Vienna, Austria, one of Europe’s most prestigious and fully funded international research programs. This highly competitive summer school is designed for undergraduate and master’s students in biology, molecular biology, biotechnology, genetics, bioinformatics, neuroscience, and related fields who want hands-on research experience in world-class laboratories.
The Vienna Biocenter (VBC) brings together leading research institutions, creating a rich scientific environment where around 30 exceptional international students come together from every continent. The program creates a multicultural, research-intensive, and career-boosting experience that strengthens academic, professional, and scientific development.

Eligibility Criteria
- All international students of any nationality.
- We encourage undergraduate, master’s, and all other level students to participate in the exchange program summer school.
- Completed at least 2 years of university.
- The program will be conducted in English.
Financial coverage
VBC Summer School is a fully-funded international summer school for all international students of any nationality. The following benefits will be given.
Free accommodation for students.
A € 1,400 after-tax scholarship for the Nine Week Program

A free travel pass that offers unlimited use of public transport in Vienna for the duration of the scholarship.

Labs & Selection Timeline
- Call opens 15 November and closes 11 January (2359 CET)
- Applications must be started by 8 January
- Results are published by 1 March
- Summer School starts: 1 July (or last Friday in June)
- Summer School ends: 31 August (or last Friday in August)
Research Project
Each fellow will be allocated a faculty member, with whom they will work closely. The research project will focus on a current topic in the allocated lab. Supported by a member of the laboratory, the scholar will be expected to perform experiments, analyze data, generate ideas, and discuss their results.
In addition to practical laboratory work, the scholar will also take part in lab meetings, journal clubs, and other activities.
