Award Type
Australia Awards Fellowships provide short-term opportunities for in-Australia study, research, and professional development activities, hosted by Australian organizations – and do not lead to academic qualifications. Application rounds are held through a competitive selection process.
Fellowship Award
Australian organizations can request funding of up to AUD 34,500 per Fellow, to a maximum of 15 Fellows to cover:
- return air travel and relevant in-Australia travel
- training costs
- accommodation and living expenses
- medical insurance costs when in Australia (for Fellowship holders only)
- special assistance for people with disability
- program overhead fee.

Duration of Fellowship:
Program Length: The Fellowship must be between a minimum of 2 weeks and a maximum of 52 weeks.
In-Australia Requirement: At least 2 weeks of the Fellowship activities must take place in Australia.
Partner Country Activities: Activities in the partner country must commence within 4 months of completing the Fellowship activities in Australia.

South Asia and the Middle East: Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Iraq, Jordan, Maldives, Mongolia, Nepal, Pakistan, Occupied Palestinian Territories, and Sri Lanka
Pacific: Federated States of Micronesia, Fiji, Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Nauru, Niue, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tonga, Tuvalu, Vanuatu, and Wallis and Futuna
Africa: Botswana, Democratic Republic of Congo, Egypt, Ghana, Kenya, Lesotho, Madagascar, Malawi, Mauritius, Morocco, Mozambique, Namibia, Nigeria, Rwanda, Senegal, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, Zimbabwe
Caribbean: Belize, Dominica, Grenada, Guyana, Haiti, Jamaica, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Suriname
Europe: Ukraine

Key dates for Round 21
- 3 November 2025 – applications for Round 21 open
- 10 November 2025 – Industry Information Session scheduled to be held.
- 16 January 2026 (11:59pm AEDT) – applications for Round 21 close
- From July 2026 – Round 21 Outcome – successful and unsuccessful notifications made to all applicants
- From September 2026 – 29 March 2028 – Round 21 Fellowship activity window
- From 30 September 2026 – Supplementary Information Form opens for successful Australin Host Organisations under Round 21
- Six (6) months prior to Fellow’s mobilisation to Australia/start date in Australia – Supplementary Information Form closes
- 1 January 2027 – Round 21 In-Australia Activity Start date.
How To Apply
Applications are accepted from Australian organizations only. Partner country counterpart organizations and individuals are not eligible to apply for Australia Awards Fellowships. Study opportunities for individuals from developing countries are available under Australia Awards: www.australiaawards.gov.au.
