France Chateaubriand Fellowship Program 2026 (Fully Funded)

The Chateaubriand Fellowship 2026–27 is a prestigious research grant offered by the Embassy of France in the United States, designed for exceptional PhD students enrolled at U.S. universities. This fellowship allows doctoral researchers to conduct 4 to 9 months of research in France, working directly with leading French laboratories, universities, and research centers.

Every year, candidates are selected through a highly competitive, merit-based evaluation process conducted by experts in both the United States and France. The program aims to strengthen scientific collaboration, support academic excellence, and foster long-term partnerships between researchers of both nations.

Eligibility Criteria

To apply, candidates must:

  • Be enrolled in a PhD program at a recognized U.S. institution
  • Have co-supervision approval from both U.S. and French research advisors
  • Conduct research in a French university, institute, or laboratory
  • Provide:
    • Agreement letter from U.S. advisor
    • Invitation letter from French host supervisor
  • Not hold French or dual French–U.S. citizenship

Ensure your application is complete — incomplete submissions are not reviewed.
