Scholarship Benefits

For the 2023-2024 academic year, San Jose University is offering scholarships to both current and prospective international students. The number and value of scholarships available have not been decided yet and will be distributed on a semester basis: one in the fall and one in the spring.

To maintain eligibility for the scholarship in the spring, students must maintain a satisfactory GPA in the fall of 2023. However, students who have already received the Global Spartan Scholarship in the past are not eligible to apply for it again.

Eligibility Criteria:

Selection is based on a comprehensive and holistic review of application materials, including written essays, GPA, test scores, and other evidence of scholastic ability and academic achievement. 

Applicants: 

• Must be a fully matriculated student in F-1 status;
• Must maintain legal F-1 status;
• Must be enrolled full-time with 12 units as an undergraduate or 9 units as a graduate student*;
• Must have a minimum SJSU cumulative GPA of 3.5 (graduate students) and 3.3 (undergraduate students);
• Must have completed at least one semester at SJSU at the time of application;
• Must be an active student at SJSU for the following academic year.

*Must be enrolled in at least 7 units, if spring 2024 is your final semester or if concurrently enrolled at another institution.

Scholarship Qualifications

The selection process for the scholarship will prioritize applicants who can demonstrate the following:

Scholarship Merit and Leadership Impact: Current students must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher (for graduate applicants) and 3.3 or higher (for undergraduate applicants). New students must also have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher.

Leadership Impact: Applicants should showcase their leadership skills by highlighting their involvement in their current campus and community.

Global Impact: The scholarship committee seeks applicants who are committed to promoting globalization, diversity, and international education. Applicants should explain how they have or will promote international education and demonstrate their commitment to diversity.

Financial Need: The committee will also consider the applicant’s financial needs and how the scholarship will contribute to their success at SJSU.

How to Apply

The application period is from March 20, 2023, to April 24, 2023. Late and/or incomplete applications will not be considered.

2. Complete the “General Application” first.

3. Next, apply for all SJSU scholarships you might be eligible for, including the Global Spartan Scholarship.
