Eligible Programs
These scholarships are open to all full-time 1-year master’s programs and full-time research degree programs starting in the 2025/26 academic year. Applicants to the following schools are especially encouraged:
- College of Development Studies, Economics, and Finance
- College of Law, Anthropology, and Politics

Who Can Apply?
The scholarship is open to applicants who:
Are nationals of an African country and ordinarily resident in Africa
Are classified as International Fee-Paying Students
Are applying for new admissions starting in 2025/26 (not continuing students)
Meet the following academic criteria:
For Master’s Degree Applicants:
Hold or expect to hold a first-class undergraduate degree or equivalent
Applicants with a 2:1 (Upper Second) may apply but will receive lower priority
For PhD Applicants:
Hold or expect to hold a Master’s degree with distinction
Applicants with a merit may apply but will not be prioritized
Other Requirements:
- Meet English language requirements of their chosen program
- Have applied to a relevant SOAS program before applying for the scholarship
(Offer is not required at time of scholarship application but must be received before award decisions are finalized)

Notification of Results
- Shortlisting and final selection will take place by June 2025.
