Application is invited to apply for the Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin (HZB) International Summer Student Program 2026. This is a fully funded summer research program in Germany for international students, offering an exceptional opportunity for young researchers seeking paid research internships in Europe and fully funded summer exchange programs in Germany. Each year, HZB hosts its prestigious eight-week Summer Student Program, designed for talented undergraduate and master’s students from around the world.

Students from all countries will have the opportunity to work on independent research projects in close collaboration with leading scientists at HZB. The program provides hands-on experience in state-of-the-art laboratories and experimental facilities at HZB campuses in Berlin-Wannsee and Berlin-Adlershof, making it ideal for students searching for high-value research internships in physics, materials science, engineering, and renewable energy.

Financial Coverage

This summer program in Berlin 2026 Germany is a fully-funded student exchange program in Germany and will cover all expenses, including:

An 8-week internship contract to work on a project. A subsistence allowance for the entire duration of the contract of € 1800 gross for external participants and € 1000 gross for students from universities located in Berlin and Potsdam.

Travel expenses will be subsidized up to € 500 to help you with travel expenses between Berlin and your home.

Eligibility Criteria

To qualify for a place in the program, you will need to meet the following requirements:

International students from all over the world. You are a student (not a Ph.D. candidate) in Physics, Chemistry, Materials Science, or related disciplines. You must have completed at least two years of full-time study in your core subject at the college level.

You will remain registered as a student during your stay at HZB. You have a good knowledge of English; knowledge of German would be an advantage. You will need to submit a reference letter at the end of the application period.
