Hungary Government Stipendium Hungaricum Scholarships 2026 (Fully Funded)

Applications are now open for the Hungarian Government Stipendium Hungaricum Scholarship 2026, one of the most prestigious fully funded scholarships in Europe for international students. Launched by the Hungarian Government in 2013 and managed by the Tempus Public Foundation under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, this scholarship provides exceptional students from all over the world the chance to study in Hungary for free.

The Stipendium Hungaricum Scholarship 2026 covers full tuition fees, monthly stipends, accommodation, and medical insurance, making it one of the most attractive fully funded scholarships in Hungary for international students. It offers Bachelor’s, Master’s, One-tier Master’s, and Ph.D. programs across a wide range of academic disciplines at Hungary’s top universities.

Why Stipendium Hungaricum Scholarships?

It is based on bilateral education agreements between Hungary and the governments of the sending countries, and is already available on five continents in almost 90 countries and territories, attracting more than 5000 international students each year.

Applicants are offered more than 600 full-degree programs, covering all higher education fields at all degree levels, including part-time and doctoral programs.

Scholarships Coverage

Bachelor’s, master’s, one-tier master’s, and non-degree programs

Tuition-free education – exemption from the payment of the tuition fee

Monthly stipend – non-degree, bachelor’s, master’s, and one-tier master’s level: a monthly amount of HUF 43,700 (EUR 120) contribution to the living expenses in Hungary, for 12 months a year, until the completion of studies

Accommodation contribution – free dormitory place or a contribution of HUF 40,000/month to accommodation costs for the whole duration of the scholarship period (Please note that if the student does not live in the dormitory, the HUF 40,000/month is a contribution to that rental costs, and in bigger cities – especially in the capital city – this contribution would not cover the full amount of rental costs.)

Medical insurance – health care services according to the relevant Hungarian legislation (Act LXXX of 1997, national health insurance card) and supplementary medical insurance for up to HUF 65 000 (ca. 180 EUR) a year/person

Doctoral programs

Tuition-free education – exemption from the payment of the tuition fee

Monthly stipend – doctoral level: according to the current Hungarian legislation, the monthly amount of scholarship is HUF 140,000 (EUR 390 for the first phase of education (4 semesters) and HUF 180,000 (EUR 500) for the second phase (4 semesters) for 12 months a year, until completion of studies.

Accommodation contribution – free dormitory place or a contribution of HUF 40,000/month to accommodation costs for the whole duration of the scholarship period (Please note that if the student does not live in the dormitory, then the HUF 40,000/month is a contribution to that rental costs, and in bigger cities – especially in the capital city – this contribution would not cover the full amount of rental fees.)

Medical insurance – health care services according to the relevant Hungarian legislation (Act LXXX of 1997, national health insurance card) and supplementary medical insurance for up to HUF 65 000 (. 180 EUR) a year/person.
