Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for the CGRS Doctoral Scholarship, applicants must:

• Be enrolled in or applying to a research-based doctoral program
• Have completed no more than 36 months of full-time doctoral study by December 31 of the application year
• Not have previously held:
  • A doctoral-level scholarship from CIHR, NSERC, or SSHRC
  • A Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarship
• Submit only one CGRS / Tri-Agency application per academic year
• International applicants must be enrolled at an eligible Canadian institution by the application deadline

Application Deadlines

If you are applying through an institution, you must submit your application by the deadline set by the institution, which may be well in advance of the agency deadline.

If you are eligible to apply directly to one of the agencies, you must submit your application using the appropriate agency application portal before 8:00 pm (ET) on October 17. If the deadline falls on a weekend, applications can be submitted the following business day before 8:00 pm (ET).
