About the Royal Society Wolfson Visiting Fellowships

What the Scheme Offers

Bursary for Visiting Fellows: Up to £80,000 per annum full‑time

Research Expenses: Consumables, travel, small equipment (up to £10,000), visa and fieldwork costs

Relocation & Visa Costs: For Fellows and dependents (exceeding cap if justified)

Flexible Tenure: 3–12 months full‑time or spread over two years

Family & Carer Support: Maternity/paternity leave provisions and childcare grants

Note: Host institutions cover overheads and any salary supplementation if candidate’s salary is maintained by their home organisation.

Eligibility Criteria

International Research Leaders with a track record of high‑quality independent science

Firm offer from a UK university/research institution (no intra‑UK transfers)

Research within natural sciences, including but not limited to biological sciences, chemistry, engineering, mathematics, and physics

Open to any nationality, including those requiring a Global Talent Visa

Application & Assessment Process

Funding Decision: Recommendations made by the Wolfson Fellowships Panel
