Australian Government Research Training Program 2023 (Fully Funded)

Application is invited to apply for the Australian Government Research Training Program 2023. This is a fully funded scholarship program at Griffith University. Griffith University is a public research university in South East Queensland on the east coast of Australia.

Applications for research scholarships as part of the Continuous Scholarship Round at Griffith University are firstly processed within the Griffith Graduate Research School. It is at this point that applications are initially reviewed for eligibility for entry into Griffith research programs.

The University’s Higher Degree by Research Scholarship Ranking Committee meets to establish a University-wide Order of Merit List. Through this process, scholarships are awarded to the highest ranking applicants in this University-wide Order of Merit.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for consideration for the award of an Australian Government RTP Stipend Scholarship, applicants must be commencing or enrolled in a Higher Degree by Research program (for which RTP support is available) at Griffith University.

Applicants must not be receiving income from another source to support their general living costs that provide a benefit greater than 75% of the RTP stipend.

Income unrelated to the candidate’s research program, or income received for the candidate’s research program but not for the purposes of supporting general living costs, is not to be taken into account.

Scholarship Benefits:

The Australian Government Research Training Program Stipend Scholarship provides a living allowance of AUD $28,854 (2022 rate, indexed annually) per annum; paid as a fortnightly stipend. Relocation, sick leave, and parental leave provisions also apply.

The Australian Government RTP Stipend Scholarship may be held for up to two years for a research master’s program and up to three years for a doctoral program.

A six-month extension may be granted to doctoral candidates in certain circumstances.

Key Dates

To commence in Intake 1, 2023, please note the following deadlines:

6 September 2022: International offshore scholarship applications close.

20 September 2022: Domestic and International onshore scholarship applications close.

Deadlines are at 11:59 pm Australian Eastern Standard Time (AEST).

22 November – 25 November 2022: Offer letters sent to successful applicants.

6 January 2023: The last date to return acceptance of the offer (extended deadline of 31 January for applicants in the final trimester of enrolment at an Australian institution (qualification condition only).

How To Apply

New applicants must follow the process for submitting an online application for a research program, which also includes a section for scholarship applications.

Current research candidates are required to follow a different process for submitting a scholarship application.

Applicants may only apply a maximum of two times in a five-year period for consideration in the scholarship ranking and selection process.
