Eligibility Criteria & Qualifications

To be considered for a Commonwealth PhD Scholarship, applicants must satisfy all of the following requirements:

Citizenship & Residency: Be a citizen of, or hold official refugee status in, an eligible Commonwealth country, and be a permanent resident of that country.

Academic Standard: By September 2027, hold an undergraduate degree of at least Upper Second-Class (2:1) Honours standard, OR a Lower Second-Class (2:2) degree alongside a relevant postgraduate degree (typically a Master’s).

Prior Registration Status: Must not be registered for a PhD (or an MPhil leading to a PhD) at a UK institution or in your home country prior to September/October 2026.

Financial Need: Must demonstrate that you are unable to afford to study in the UK without the assistance of this scholarship.

Availability: Be available to commence academic studies in the UK by the start of the UK academic year in September/October 2027.
