Jefferson Scholars Foundation Scholarship Requirements

Eligibility for this fellowship requires the applicant to be a Ph.D. candidate who anticipates completing their dissertation by the end of the Fellowship year or has developed a comprehensive and viable two-year write-up plan, substantiated with compelling documentation. It’s important to note that this fellowship is not intended for post-doctoral candidates. Applicants need not be U.S. citizens to apply.

Once selected, each Fellow will collaborate with a Mentor to establish a network of scholars concentrating on their research expertise, particularly in addressing significant policy-oriented questions. The collaborative process begins with a meeting at U.Va., or the Hagley for the Galambos Fellow in the fall, where the agenda for year-long collaboration is set, and efforts to recruit additional network members commence.

This network may engage in various activities such as virtual reading groups, workshops, conference panels, symposia, manuscript workshops, or other similarly focused endeavors. Notably, the expenses associated with these network events and activities are covered by a dedicated budget allocated for each Fellow.
