The SONG project (Solwara na Graun blo pipol – Sea and land biodiversity for people) is France’s contribution to Papua New Guinea (PNG) Country Package. It is managed by Expertise France and WCS and funded by the Agence Française de Développement

The project’s overall objective is to contribute to the conservation of biodiversity and the sustainable, gender-sensitive management of PNG’s marine and forest ecosystems, whilst improving the living conditions of the local communities that depend on them and strengthening their resilience to climate change.

The project comprises four components. Component 1 focuses on biodiversity conservation, while Component 2 aims at promoting sustainable livelihoods based on natural resource use. The third component aims to strengthen research by national institutions in the field of biodiversity and traditional knowledge of the use of natural resources by local communities. Component 4 deals with sustainable financing of biodiversity conservation through the Biodiversity and Climate Fund.
