#2. Focus on your resume

Your resume is the first thing recruiters and hiring managers will see; It means that it should help you stand out from the competition (which will undoubtedly be high) and take your request to the ‘yes’ stack. Here are some internal tips (courtesy of Google) for your resume to be noticed:

Adapt your resume to the internship you are requesting: read the job description carefully to identify keywords and phrases and incorporate them into your resume. Make sure your skills and experience are in line with the job description.

Mention the key skills and achievements: now is not the time to be modest. Mention any project on which you have worked or managed, what the result was and how you measure success, and do not avoid talking about the leadership positions you have occupied. If you have little or no work experience, talk about school-related projects or courses that demonstrate your skills and present yourself as a problem solver.

Be Brief: While the general rule is to maintain a maximum of two A4 pages, Google recommends only one.

#3. Submit your Application

Once you have found the perfect internship for which you want to apply and have created a well-written resume, the next step is to submit your application. There are three main ways to do this:

Online: Go back to the Google job bank, find the internship you are interested in, and click on the “Apply” button. Complete the registration form and upload your CV (PDF) and transcript. You can also add an optional letter (highly recommended).

References: make some networks on LinkedIn and ask someone you know (who works at Google, of course) to forward it. Usually, this simply takes you beyond the curriculum selection process. After that, you will be practically alone.

Through your college/university: if your college/university is registered with Google, you can directly request a summer internship from there.

Keep in mind that when you apply for most internships, your application will be sent to various places in the world unless otherwise specified. You can also consider the Google Summer of Code program. While it is not exactly an internship, successful candidates spend their summer vacations writing code and learning about open-source development.

#4. Prepare for the interview.

As I am sure you agree, interviews are possibly the most frightening and difficult part of the hiring process. But as long as it’s prepared, it should be fine. Here are some tips for the interview:

Research: learn as much as possible about the different Google products and services and the people who support them.

Practice questions: ask a trusted friend or relative to interpret with you and practice answering common interview questions, such as ‘Why do you want to work here? On that note, Google is notoriously famous for asking curious questions to candidates, such as “What would you do with $ 100 million? “and how you explain the Google Adsense program to your grandparent ” The key is to show your skills and technical knowledge.

Ask your own questions: Even if all your questions were answered during the course of the conversation, make sure you have some supporting questions to ask the interviewer to confirm your interest in the position. You can also ask questions during the interview if and when they flow with the conversation.

The interview process begins with a telephone interview or through Google Hangouts. Interviews for software engineering positions typically last between 30 and 60 minutes and cover data structures and algorithms.

You should write 20-30 lines of code in Google Docs that you will share with the interviewer. For all other functions, interviews usually last 30 to 45 minutes and consist mainly of hypothetical, behavioral, and case-based questions.

An interview on the site follows this. You will meet four Googlers (by the way, as Google employees call them) for 30 to 45 minutes each and your overall cognitive ability, leadership skills, role-related knowledge and ‘Googleyness’ can work as part of a team. , help other people, etc.). Some other tips to keep in mind for software and technology engineering functions include:

  • Practice coding questions (sites like Stack Overflow can be a great resource)
  • Know at least one programming language (preferably C ++, Java, Python, Go, or C)
  • Become familiar with common classification functions
  • Understand algorithms and improve/change them
  • Being able to think recursively
  • Math basics
  • Study as many data structures as possible

#5. Receive a Google offer Letter

After completing the google internship interview phase, a hiring committee look closely at your internship application including your reference, any previous work performance, your resume, etc., and base the decision to hire it.

If they accept you into the Google family and you have a job offer, congratulations! After all, Google’s acceptance rate for full-time jobs is less than 1%, and significantly lower for interns! So, if you are accepted, feel very proud of yourself.

As a Googler, you can expect to earn an average salary of $ 6,666 (4,949 pounds) per month, which, when multiplied, amounts to about $ 80,000 (59,421) a year! And that is in addition to all the incredible benefits that Google offers its employees!
